At St. Andrew’s College, Pope Francis’ proposal was lived out by inviting young women from a community for at-risk minors in the Thane district to the city. The rector, Fr. Magi Murzello: “Offering hope is a life-changing adventure.”
Mumbai () – A two-day visit to discover the great metropolis of Mumbai. On the occasion of World Children’s Day, 42 little guests were received in Mumbai from the Naya Jeevan (New Life), the reception center of the Helpers of Mary ad Asangaon congregation, in the district of Thane, in Maharashtra. The visit was proposed by Father Magi Murzello, rector of St Andrew’s College in Bandra, together with the team of CACHE, the Center for Advanced Studies in Culture, Happiness and Ethics.
For 60 years Naya Jeevan has been a safe haven for underage girls: “All castes and creeds are welcome – she explains to sister Flory -. Currently there is only one Catholic girl, the others come from the majority community. The girls study in nearby schools and live with us. Father Murzello organized the trip and the two-day stay at St. Andrew’s. They are all girls who find themselves in difficult situations: for them, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the Gateway of India, the Nehru Science Center, the Museum, and do the entire ‘Mumbai Darshan’, the tour of the city that includes nearly 60 points of interest. We also visited the Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount, in Bandra, and entrusted ourselves to the maternal protection of Mary.”
Father Magi explains that he organized the visit precisely to live the spirit of the World Children’s Day proposed by Pope Francis in Mumbai on May 26. “The objective we have together with CACHE in St. Andrew ‘s-he says to – is to offer hope and support to people facing complicated challenges. “It is a life-changing adventure.”
