Police say the detainee is being questioned and speaks of “assault on an officer”

September 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Israeli security forces arrested a woman on Friday after she threw sand at right-wing National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir on a beach in Tel Aviv, police confirmed, adding that the detainee is being questioned.

Police have indicated in a message on their account on social network X that the woman, aged 27, “threw sand” at him when he was with her family, which is why they have spoken of an “assault on an official”. In addition, they have indicated that the woman was arrested after trying to escape by getting into the water.

Videos posted on social media show Ben Gvir and several of his relatives standing on the shore, surrounded by a group of police officers and with several people shouting at him to leave the place, amid criticism of his role in government decisions on the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Ben Gvir, one of the most extremist members of the Netanyahu-led coalition government — made up of far-right and ultra-Orthodox parties — has consistently advocated continuing the offensive against Gaza and has shown himself to be against negotiations for a ceasefire.

In fact, on Wednesday it said it was “working to stop negotiations” with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) for a possible agreement that would include the release of those kidnapped during the attacks of October 7, 2023, which left around 1,200 dead and some 250 kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities.

The Israeli army launched an offensive against Gaza following the aforementioned attacks, which has so far left nearly 40,900 Palestinians dead, according to the Gazan authorities, controlled by Hamas, a figure to which must be added more than 690 dead in the West Bank and East Jerusalem at the hands of Israeli forces or settlers.
