Applications close this October 31 and the program already has 13 students enrolled.
It has more than 30 years of experience and current accreditation, the Doctorate in Sciences, mathematics mention from the University of Chile The call for applications has already opened, especially designed for those who have studied a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Engineering or an equivalent study.
The main objective of the program is to form a profile of high-level researchers in mathematics, who can work as researchers and teachers in foreign universities. Particularly in one of the 3 areas of the department that are Dynamic Systems and Differential Equations, Algebraic Geometry and Number Theory and finally, Representation Theory and Harmonic Analysis.
Currently the department offers a new development plan that consolidates these three areas, along with improvements in infrastructure, bathrooms and pavilions. In addition to the accreditation acquired in 2018.
“Our doctorate has national prestige in the area of Number Theory, which is where we have had graduates with very good results,” he said. Gonzalo Robledo Veloso, academic and coordinator of the program.
The teacher also highlighted the purpose of training professionals with levels of autonomy to develop their own line of research and be able to apply for competitive funds, as well as the possibility of working as an undergraduate and postgraduate teacher.
The study plan consists of four compulsory courses (Analysis I and II, Algebra I and II), six elective seminars, the Qualification Exam, Thesis Project, English Exam, Reading in a Second Foreign Language Exam, and Thesis. All condensed in a minimum period of 2 years and 5 at most.
In addition to this, the fact of being a regular student makes it possible to access internal benefits such as the six-monthly application for scholarships for a tariff reduction of up to 50% in first and second year. Even if the student has registered the writing of the thesis, the discount consists of 100%.
To date, 49 students have graduated from the program, “most of our graduates are working as researchers in Chilean universities or doing postgraduate studies at the University of Chile and abroad,” Robledo concluded.
