The airline announced that the resumption of flights to Venezuela, which was scheduled to begin on October 4 as part of the reopening of the borders between Bogotá and Caracas, was suspended at the request of the Venezuelan authorities.
Not for now. The Wingo airline temporarily postponed the resumption of flights from Colombia to Venezuela after receiving a notification from the authorities of the Caribbean country.
On September 12, Wingo had announced the resumption of flights from Bogotá to Caracas as part of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, in the context of the reopening of the border that took place on Monday, September 26.
“The Government of Venezuela has asked Wingo to suspend the start of its air operations, which were initially scheduled and authorized for October 4,” the airline reported.
According to the company, they were informed that the temporary suspension is given to “resolve issues between the governments of Colombia and Venezuela on the airlines approved to carry out flights between the two countries.”
The Bogotá-Caracas-Bogotá route was affected “and is awaiting the final decisions adopted by the authorities for its restart.”
“As soon as the Venezuelan authorities notify the airline when it will be able to resume the commercialization of routes between the two countries, the company will restart sales and inform the new flight start date,” added Wingo.
Wingo had hoped to offer travelers two additional routes between Medellín and Caracas, starting next October 18, and between Bogotá and Valencia, on November 3, but the plans were postponed.
Prior to this cancellation, Venezuela had announced flights to Colombia from the state airline Conviasa, but at the last minute this operation was not possible because the company is included in the ‘Clinton List’ and therefore did not receive authorization from the Civil Aeronautics from Colombia.
Armando Benedetti, the Colombian ambassador in Venezuela, announced that instead of Conviasa the flights to Colombia would be made by Turpial Airlines, but he did not provide further details.
“Great news! The Venezuelan airline Turpial Airlines has just received authorization from @AerocivilCol to land in Bogotá next Monday, September 26, from Caracas. The first of 27 flights scheduled until December 30. Not long to go!”, the diplomat wrote on his Twitter account.
But the first Turpial Airlines flight did not materialize on Monday either and now Wingo announces that it is postponing its operations to Venezuela.
