Windows 11 2022 (22H2) arrived last week with news such as the new Task Manager with Efficiency Mode and Clipchamp as a video editor. However, the latest version of Microsoft’s new operating system also released an interesting security feature.

This is the improved protection against phishing in Microsoft Defender Smartscreen, a tool that will help us prevent phishing attacks, keeping our password safe. Of course, before we will have to activate this feature. Let’s see how to do it.

How to enable Windows 11 phishing protection

Before enabling this new security feature we should mention that sIt is only available in Windows 11 2022, so if you have an older version you will need to upgrade first. If the update has not yet arrived you have the possibility to force it.

You should also note that if you sign in with Windows Hello or PIN this feature will not work. You need to sign in with your Microsoft password.

Now yes, click on Start > Setting > Privacy & Security > windows security > Application and browser control > Reputation-Based Protection Settings.

In the section Phishing protectionyou will see three options:

  • Warn me about malicious apps and sites
  • Warn me about password reuse
  • Warn me about storing insecure passwords

Make sure all three checkboxes are checked.

“Warn me about malicious apps and sites” will warn us when we enter our password into a compromised app or website.

The “Warn me about password reuse” option will cause an alert to appear if you enter your Windows password on a website, whether it’s a phishing site or a legitimate site.

In the case of “Warn me about storing insecure passwords”, the system will warn you when you type your password in an application such as Notepad, WordPad and Microsoft Office.
