William of England expresses his "shock" over the death of his nanny's stepson in the New Orleans attack

MADRID Jan. 4 () –

Prince William of England has expressed his “shock and sadness” over the death of Edward Pettifer in the attack last New Year’s Eve that took the lives of 15 people in New Orleans. Pettifer, a British citizen, was the son of Alexandra Pettifer, the former nanny of the Prince of Wales.

“Catalina and I are shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Pettifer,” Guillermo said in a statement published on his Instagram account. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Pettifer family and with all the innocent people tragically affected by this terrible attack,” he noted.

British media have reported, citing sources from the royal family, that King Charles himself is in contact with the victim’s family and that he has personally conveyed his condolences to them.

Pettifer, originally from the London neighborhood of Chelsea, was the stepson of Alexandra Pettifer, formerly Tiggy Legge-Bourke, William and Harry’s nanny between 1993 and 1999. Their mother, Princess Diana, died on August 31, 1997 in an accident traffic in Paris.

A total of 14 people were killed and another 35 were injured when a former US military supporter of the Islamic State identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar charged a truck into the crowd celebrating New Year’s Eve early in the morning on one of the streets in downtown New Orleans. After the accident, he exited the vehicle and began firing a firearm before being shot dead by security forces.
