After a meticulous monitoring and analysis of the invoices issued last year to individuals, by businesses and companies in the country, the National Tax and Customs Directorate (Dian) launched a harsh alert to citizens, since barely A small percentage of these documents are used for rent discounts.
According to Luis Carlos Reyes, director of this entity, of all the invoices validated in 2023 and issued to natural persons, only 19.7% meet the requirements established in the standard for the tax deduction of 1% of the value of purchases in the income tax settlement.
This official explained that the tax administration was able to verify that a total of 1,672 million electronic invoices were issued to natural persons when they acquired goods and services, of which it was found that only 329 million are eligible to request the deduction in the income tax that It was supported in the last tax reform.

“The reason is that only this fraction of the total reportedas a means of payment, a debit card, credit card or other electronic means from an entity supervised by the Financial Superintendency,” the entity said.
This is why Dian reiterated its call to citizens so that when paying for their goods or services they ensure that the means of payment appears on the electronic invoice issued: debit card, credit card or any electronic means used during the transaction. since otherwise the document will be invalidated.

In this sense, he explained that one of the most common cases occurs when the buyer pays with electronic means, but the business reports the invoice as if the payment had been in cash. In this sense, the entity warns electronic billers that, at the time of issuing the electronic sales invoice, they must discriminate the means of payment used to facilitate access to the tax benefit.

According to Dian figures, there are currently 1.1 million enabled electronic billers in the country, while the entity has identified 139,155 that must be enabled, which is why it is in that process.
In the departments of the Caribbean Coast, including the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina (cutoff as of April 17), there are a total of 163,495 electronic billers, and another 18,942 must be enabled soon. It is worth remembering that next May 1 is the first deadline for large taxpayers to implement the POS electronic equivalent document.
