“One factor driving this move is that Game Pass isn’t seeing strong growth beyond the current installed base on Xbox consoles. So the goal for current console players is to incentivize an upgrade to the higher-priced Ultimate tier with day-one releases, cloud gaming, etc.
“PC and mobile gamers haven’t bought into Game Pass at the rate Microsoft had hoped, and this group is where user growth should come from, so the Game Pass for PC tier will still have day 1 games,” the analyst said.
Some fans are concerned by this analysis, fearing that the service will not grow enough after the addition of Activision Blizzard games to its catalog and this will cause another short-term price increase or even problems for the brand.
