Why is the EU in suspense over Nord Stream I? The countdown to winter begins

In Europe, they have already counted down to winter and are concerned about a possible lack of storage. This Monday, the international energy agency (IEA) urged Europeans to reduce gas consumption in order to get through the winter because the measures taken so far are insufficient. In this context, it remains uncertain whether the main gas supply artery, the Nord Stream I, whicheu connects Russia with Germany will be put into operation after its usual technical stoppage.

All hypotheses remain open. While the EU assures that Russia has no excuse to restore supply since the turbines required by the system are already delivered, the Kremlin remains reluctant to guarantee the arrival of gas. For now, Russia has been cutting off the tap to the member countries and the arrival of this material is already at a minimum since 2019. Faced with such an uncertain scenario, the European Commission has approved an extraordinary meeting for next July 26 to examine future measures to tackle the energy crisis.
