Whoopi Goldberg pretends to take a nap during ‘The View’ in protest of ‘Wicked’ meme debate

Whoopi Goldberg I was expecting a short day when it came to “Wicked” talk.

on tuesday episode of “The View” The 69-year-old man pretended to sleep while the group argued an “evil” meme involving stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

Goldberg placed his chin firmly in his palm after inserting the viral interview moment during the Hot Topics segment.

Tracy Gilchrist for Out Magazine he told Erivo and Grande that fans of the project “are holding space” with the lyrics to “Defying Gravity,” which prompted an emotional reaction from Erivo, 37, during her press tour.

“I didn’t know that was happening. “That’s really powerful,” the actress said, as Grande, 31, reached out and squeezed her co-star’s index finger.

“Apparently this has struck a chord with people. Because? “I don’t know,” Goldberg said during the ABC show.

Co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin then channeled their inner Erivo and Grande, recreating the finger hug as the audience laughed.

“What does it mean to hold space?” Joy Behar finally questioned, to which Hostin, 56, explained that it is the “practice of making space for another person’s experience and centering it” that “encourages listening and empathy,” according to Psychology today.

“Am I supposed to make room for Trump supporters now?” Behar, 82, joked. Meanwhile, Griffin, 35, noted how “perfectly unhinged the whole press tour” for “Wicked” is.

Behar then pointed to Goldberg nodding at the head of the table and said, “Whoopi took a nap during this entire segment.”

Hostin added: “She has room for self-care!”

Goldberg then woke up from his deep sleep, looked around, smiled and sent the show to a commercial break.

Since then, Gilchrist has been mocked by the internet for creating the completely absurd phrase, but I told him Variety on Monday that the interview took place a day and a half after November 5 presidential electionand that he attended the meeting with “sincere” intentions.

The journalist also explained her personal definition of “keeping space.”

“I was very inspired by Tony Morrison, [senior communications director] of GLAAD,” he told the outlet. “He posted the lyrics to ‘Defying Gravity’ before I did my interview. It was a great explanation. ‘Holding space’ is being physically, emotionally and mentally present with someone or something. “For me, it means being in the moment, not getting distracted, and feeling something on a cellular level.”

“I think you can hold a space with the lyrics of a song, one you’ve heard hundreds of times, and it can suddenly take on a new meaning when you’re a queer person,” Gilchrist continued.

“The Trump administration is reaching out to LGBTQ+ people through Project 2025. When Cynthia sings ‘I’m sick of accepting limits,’ there’s power in that. She plays a different character. Someone who reaches all her power when she is exiled by a charlatan, by a cruel leader.”

The media personality concluded: “There is a lot of resonance right now for anyone who is marginalized. For me, holding space is hearing those lyrics again and finding solace or inspiration.”
