WhatsApp users will soon be able to lock and protect their conversations, thanks to a new feature: ‘Chat Lock’.
As part of its great privacy package, Meta already allows WhatsApp users a multitude of functions such as encrypting your backups, blocking the possibility of taking screenshots and making messages disappear automatically.
Now you want to add one more named step ‘chat lock‘ or ‘Chat lock’, which, as its name suggests, allows you to lock a chat, removing all included conversations from the inbox and places it behind a folder that can only be accessed with your device password or biometricslike a fingerprint.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, confirmed the new feature in a Facebook post. “The new locked chats in WhatsApp make your conversations more private. They are hidden in a password-protected folder and notifications will not show the sender or the content of the message”.
Once you block a chat, the app it will also automatically hide the content in your notifications and it will only jump to you that you have a new message, but it will not say from whom or its content. You can lock a chat by tapping on a one-on-one or group name and selecting the lock option.
Keep gossips at bay with this new WhatsApp chat blocking feature
As you already know and although WhatsApp offers end-to-end encryption, that does not apply when someone has unlocked access to your mobile and accesses the application to gossip about all your messages and conversations. In a nutshell, this new feature provides an additional layer of security in these cases.
“We think this feature will be great for people who occasionally share their phones with a family member, or at times when someone else is holding their phone at the exact moment an extra special chat arrives.” Meta said.
The company has also confirmed that in the coming months they will add more options for this new featureincluding locks for companion devices and creating a custom password for chats so users can use a different unique password than mobile.
