March 30 (Portaltic/EP) –
WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to stay in touch through chats or audio channels, a functionality very similar to the one that characterizes the Discord platform.
The company has been working on calls for months, options that it has been implementing both in its desktop version and in its mobile applications. With one of its latest innovations, it has expanded the number of participants up to 32that is, four times the amount previously allowed.
WhatsApp maintains its commitment to this mobile feature, since in the last beta version 2.23.7.12 for Android, has implemented the ability to activate a new interface for audio calls similar to what Discord offers.
The application will implement a button at the top of the screen, next to the name and members of a group, with a waveform and that will allow users to start audio chats, as you have verified WABetaInfo.
This portal has shared a screenshot in which you can see a red button with a phone just like the one appears when making a WhatsApp call and wants to hang
“Given the the waveform icon involves the ability to display audio in real time, the space above the chat header may be reserved for displaying audio waveforms,” he said in his post.
This functionality has been detected in the latest version of the ‘app’ launched through the Google Play beta program and it is unknown if the company hopes to also bring it to iOS mobiles and its desktop version.
