() – Veterans Day honors active and retired U.S. military members annually on Nov. 11, the anniversary of the end of the World War I.
This year, the holiday falls on a Monday, giving many office workers and students a long weekend.
Since it is a federal holiday, many government institutions and banks will be closed. Below are locations open and closed on Veterans Day 2024.
Major retailers such as Target, Walmart, Kroger and other supermarket chains will open on Monday. Costco will also be open.
Veterans will be able to get gifts and benefits at different stores and restaurants on Monday. For example, veterans and active duty military can get a free medium sandwich, drink, and fries or cookie at Firehouse Subs and a complimentary entrée and drink from a prix fixe menu at California Pizza Kitchen. Texas Roadhouse also offers a free meal to veterans and active duty military members every year.
Be sure to check local stores and restaurants for their hours.
Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Citibank and TD Bank branches will be closed Monday for the holiday.
Federal Reserve banks will also be closed.
The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will go public on Veterans Day.
UPS will operate as normal on Veterans Day. FedEx will also be open as normal, with the exception of modified service for FedEx Express and Ground Economy.
USPS will not send or deliver mail on Monday.
Most government institutions (such as the Department of Motor Vehicles and local libraries) consider Monday a holiday. Be sure to check if your local services are open that day.
