( Spanish) — After the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, tested positive for covid-19 this Sunday for the third time since the pandemic began, the federal government offered an official update on his state of health this Tuesday.
Jorge Alcocer Varela, Secretary of Health of Mexico, explained that López Obrador has mild inflammation in the respiratory tract (nose and throat), as well as fever and fatigue.
“This symptomatology is the same that the president has had (previously in other infections). With the intake of paracetamol, fluids, rest, it has improved,” said Alcocer Varela in the morning conference this Tuesday.
The head of the Ministry of Health also gave details about the president’s heart, since he has a history of cardiovascular problems and it is one of the organs that covid-19 can affect.
“You know that the president has a history of having suffered a heart attack. The current evaluation on this issue is normal. In fact, blood pressure has been controlled more downward, but it is because he is not taking actions with the entire population, which are a dynamic action that raises blood pressure. Therefore, blood pressure is also controlled and in good condition,” Alcocer said.
When he reported his infection, López Obrador said that his heart was “at 100” and, later, the federal government stressed that the president’s heart was “in optimal conditions.”
Finally, Alcocer Varela said that the president of Mexico came out normal in all the studies that were carried out, “including a meticulous examination of the thorax”, so he will be discharged in a few days.
