The controversial reform of the National Guard has already been approved by the Mexican Congress and sent to state congresses. With this reform, the institution would be incorporated into the Secretariat of National Defense. This initiative is part of the package of 20 constitutional reforms sent by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on February 5. María Idalia Gómez, journalist; Gerardo Rodríguez, professor at the University of the Americas; and Saul Arellano, researcher in the University Development Studies Program at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, make an analysis of whether or not there is a risk of militarization in the country.
