The end of the series The Last of Us, available on HBO Max, is scheduled for Sunday, March 12, 2023, although the date may be changed because that same day is the Oscars. If you can’t stand the urge and you want to know at once how the plot starring Pedro Pascal concludes, you can turn to the original video game and get ahead of the most exciting events.
Undoubtedly, the first of the events occurs at the beginning of The Last of Us with the death of Sarah Miller, Joe’s daughter. Her death occurs suddenly because of a soldier who had orders to shoot and contain the population. The scene shows Joe desperately asking Sarah to keep breathing as she faints without her father being able to do anything. Without a doubt, it is the most exciting event that sets the tone for what will be the plot.
Another very emotional event is the death of Tess, or rather her sacrifice. She is Joe’s ally and the character closest to the protagonist, in addition to the fact that she assumes Ellie’s protection and offers her life so that she fulfills her purpose: to be humanity’s cure against Cordyceps. Her death is the most shocking after Sarah’s, and it is not for less because her fate was sealed: Tess was bitten, so she immolates herself to prevent the soldiers from persecuting Ellie and Joe. She had very little time in the plot, but her story was well worth knowing.
From here we jump to the story of Henry and Sam. They both work together with Joe and Ellie to survive. There’s a breather in all the chaos, but things get complicated again when we find out that Sam is infected. The character is key in the development of the plot, because it makes Ellie feel like a girl again for the first time since we’ve met her in the game. The worst happens later when Sam wakes up completely infected and it is his older brother who decides to kill him. The situation is so tense that Henry himself cannot tolerate it and he ends up taking his own life.
There is a moment that you may have forgotten and it is about the dialogue between Ellie and Joel at the ranch. It is in that place where Ellie and Joel clear their emotions about what to do in the future. Joel tells Ellie to go to Tommy’s because she thinks her brother can take better care of her than he can; however, Ellie understands that Joel is trying to get away from her, because he reminds her of her daughter Sarah of her. Seeing Ellie showing her feelings and seeing Joel suffering his own makes the scene unforgettable.
The list wouldn’t be complete without David and his ending in the burning restaurant. It is in the denouement of this battle that we discover Ellie’s vengeful side. The scene in question concludes with Ellie being interrupted by Joel. Ellie’s despair and how she loses all her senses in anger is something that the story develops in the future with The Last of Us 2.
And to finish, the scene of Ellie and Joel observing the giraffes is a classic that no one forgets. After the chaos and destruction, contact with animal life makes the environment hopeful. The conversation between Ellie and Joel realize that they can escape for a few moments from reality and gives way to a greater sincerity between both characters.
