The executive had a presentation at CES 2025 where she highlighted a new feature called “Trend Genius.” This tool automatically boosts ad campaigns on more than 250 innovations since Musk acquired Twitter, in 2022.
Yaccarino was questioned about Musk’s new role alongside Vivek Ramaswamy as leaders of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and its possible impact on X, ensuring that there is trust in both and even suggesting that other countries could follow their example.
The already elected president, Donald Trump, was satisfied with Meta’s decision. When asked by the press at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida about whether the change in technology was influenced by his threats against Zuckerberg, the tycoon responded: “Probably, yes.”
“We’re going back to our roots and focusing on reducing errors, simplifying our policies, and restoring free speech on our platforms,” Zuckerberg said in a video, while Yaccarino reaffirmed X’s stance at the tech event.
In recent years, social media companies have changed their stance when it comes to content moderation, in part due to the politicization of moderation decisions and programs. Republicans have long criticized Meta’s fact-checking system and fact-checking in general as unfair and favoring Democrats, a claim that is disputed.
But since Donald Trump’s presidential victory, CEOs and business leaders across industries have aligned their policies in favor of the incoming administration. For example, Meta, along with other technology companies, donated one million dollars to Trump’s inaugural fund and prior to the Republican’s victory. The tech company has reportedly appointed Republican Joel Kaplan to lead its public policy team, while Dana White of the UFC and a longtime Trump supporter will join the platform’s board of directors.
