The strategic communication coordinator of the National Security Council of the United States, John Kirby, has indicated this Thursday that the Biden Administration is concerned about the health of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalni.
“We share his concerns and continue to believe that he must be released immediately, obviously, and other than that we insist that he receive proper medical attention,” Kirby said.
Kirby has referred to the call made hours earlier by Navalni’s wife, Yulia Navalnia, for the opposition leader to receive medical treatment, alleging “humanity.”
“When you return from work, surely your parents and children are waiting for you at home. What goes through your heads, how do you live when you rejoice that you intentionally let a person get sick, that you don’t take care of them, that you don’t give them medicines?” Navalnia pointed out, according to the dpa agency.
This desperate appeal from Navalnia comes at a time when the prominent opponent has been unable to attend a court hearing due to his state of health, his lawyer, Kira Yarmysh, has reported on Twitter.
Yarmysh has repeatedly denounced that his client is confined in an isolation cell in deplorable conditions while, in addition, he is denied medical assistance to alleviate the episodes of fever, chills and cough that he has suffered for a long time.
In addition, a group of 290 Russian doctors have written a letter this week addressed to the country’s president, Vladimir Putin, advocating that he allow Navalni to receive the health care that his followers and family demand.
