Washington condemns North Korea's latest ballistic missile launch

July 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The spokesman for the United States Department of State has condemned this Wednesday the latest launch of North Korean ballistic missiles, which occurred on Wednesday after the first shipment to the area in decades by the United States of a submarine with the capacity to carry nuclear weapons.

“These launches are a violation of multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions. They are a threat against North Korea’s neighbors and against the international community,” Miller said during a press conference.

“We remain committed to a diplomatic rapprochement with North Korea, as is our commitment to the defense of South Korea and Japan,” the spokesman added.

These statements are made along the same lines as those made by the spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Stéphane Dujarric, who has reiterated the “strong condemnation” of António Guterres regarding “these types of launches that only worsen the tension in the Korean Peninsula”.

The missile was launched during the early hours of Wednesday and fell into the waters of the Sea of Japan after crossing a distance of 550 kilometers, according to information from the South Korean Army.

Pyonyang last week carried out another ballistic test with an intercontinental missile ‘Hwasong-18’, a measure that was also condemned by the countries of the area.
