Warner confirms the reboot of ‘Harry Potter’ and the prequel to ‘Game of Thrones’: this will be its direct missile to Netflix and Disney +

The second season of 'Game of Thrones: The House of the Dragon' will be shorter, but the reasons are not economic

The rumors were true. Warner Bros. Discovery is willing to deploy an enormous amount of resources to crown itself as one of the content creators most important in the industry. The announcements that he has made this Wednesday are a clear example.

In addition to establishing dates and prices for its new Max platform, the product of the merger between HBO Max and Discovery+, the American giant has just confirmed two very important projects. This is the reboot of ‘Harry Potter’ and prequel to ‘Game of Thrones’.

Strong commitment to Harry Potter

Warner Bros. Discovery will squeeze the popularity of JK Rowling’s original Harry Potter books. How will do? With an ambitious project that consists of translating them into a series of a decade long that promises to meticulously take care of the characteristic details of the franchise.

As explained by the company itself, the filming will be nourished by a new cast, whose mission will be to arouse interest in Harry Potter in a new generation of followers. Rowling, along with Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts, will serve as part of the series’ executive producing team.

“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I look forward to be part of this new adaptation that will allow a degree of depth and detail that only a long-form television series offers”, said the celebrated author.

Again to Westeros, but many years ago

Max’s owners have also confirmed that they are preparing a prequel to ‘Game of Thrones’. The story will take place approximately ninety years before what we have seen in the main series and will show the adventures and challenges of Dunk and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg). It will be based on the book ‘The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ by George RR Martin.

The official description reads: “A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes roamed Westeros… a naive but brave young knight, Dunk, and his diminutive squire, Egg.” It will be set in the time when Targaryen still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet faded.

Both the ‘Harry Potter’ reboot and the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel will be available on Max, the new streaming service from Waner Bros. Discovery. The projects are in their early stages, so many details are still unknown, such as the cast, filming dates and locations, and when they will be released.
