Warcraft II remaster appears in the Blizzard client

Like any other company, Blizzard Entertainment has a content delivery network (CDN) through which it releases updates for its titles. Players receive them through the Battle.net client. There are people who are dedicated to inspecting the data on this network, but normally there are no surprises because the company has the option of encrypting the information of unannounced games. However, it does not always do so and this is how the existence of the Warcraft II remaster has been revealed.

BlizzTrack has discovered that the latest update that Blizzard has released to its CDN adds a new account called Warcraft II: Remastered Internal Alpha, a name that leaves little doubt about its nature. You can even consult the configuration file with the installation path or available languages. In case anyone is still questioning what game it is, the update includes background images, the logo and the icon for Battle.net, material that confirms that the announcement of Warcraft II Remastered will occur sooner rather than later.

When will Warcraft II Remastered be announced? On November 13 at 7:00 p.m. CET Blizzard will broadcast a Direct to commemorate 30 years of Warcraft, so this seems like the perfect date to present the remaster. It is also suspected that during the event the company will address the status of Warcraft III: Reforged. This is because in October BlizzTrack detected that Blizzard’s CDN had a version 2.0 of Warcraft III: Reforged, which would indicate the existence of a large update for a game that was launched four years ago with enough problems to automate the refunds.

In recent years Blizzard has recovered most of its catalog. Titles like The Lost Vikings, Rock N’ Roll Racing and Blackthorne are gathered in the Blizzard Arcade Collection, Diablo and the first two Warcraft with their respective expansions are available on Battle.net, Diablo II and StarCraft II have a complete remaster and Warcraft III the aforementioned remake. With this history it is not surprising that Warcraft II Remastered is in development. Now all that’s left is for the company to formally present the game, show what it looks like, detail all the improvements and put a price on it along with a release date.
