day 191 of war in Ukraine.
Gazprom has announced that suspends gas supplies to the EU via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, linking Russia with Germany across the Baltic Sea, indefinitely because it has been found an oil leak.
The pipeline was supposed would reopen on September 3 after repairs to its only operating turbine, however, gas flow will be suspended “until the problems are solved”, according to the Russian state gas company.
Gazprom’s decision comes just hours after the finance ministers of the countries of the G7 (United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Canada and Japan) have decided to impose a cap -that is, to put a limit price- on Russian oil exports. The objective of this measure is to prevent the Kremlin from taking large revenues as the price of a barrel of crude rises.
