Wall Street will close on January 9 in honor of former President Jimmy Carter

US stock markets will close on Thursday, January 9 as a sign of mourning for the death of former President Jimmy Carter, who died on Sunday at the age of 100.

The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq announced the closures on Monday, a common gesture to honor deceased presidents.

President Joe Biden decreed that January 9 was a day of national mourning for Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2002 for his humanitarian work.

The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association has recommended an early closing on January 9 for the US bond market at 2:00 p.m.
