MADRID Nov. 2 () –
The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has promised this Saturday that responsibilities will be resolved at the political level but also at the criminal level for the collapse of the canopy of the main train station in Novi Sad, in which 14 people died on Friday.
“Today all of Serbia is paralyzed. Political and criminal responsibilities are going to be determined,” Vucic stated in a speech to the nation broadcast on social networks.
The president explained that he has asked the Novi Sad Prosecutor’s Office that the people responsible for what happened be “prosecuted and severely punished.” “I ask that there be political and criminal responsibilities,” he stressed.
“According to the latest information, and we hope it is the definitive figure, there are 14 people dead, of which five have not yet been identified,” Vucic added. Eight of the victims are citizens of Serbia and one is from Macedonia.
Vucic took the opportunity to convey his condolences “to all the citizens of our country” and in particular to the relatives of the deceased.
Furthermore, Vucic took the opportunity to thank the volunteers who helped after the tragedy, those who donated blood and those who helped recover the bodies and care for the injured.
