Vox replaces Ortega Smith with Ignacio Garriga in the Organization Secretariat after the fright of Macarena Olona

The internal storm that has caused the departure of Macarena Olona from Vox has caused her first major change in leadership since she achieved her first institutional representation, in December 2018. The party’s National Executive Committee has relieved Javier Ortega Smith at the head of the Organization Secretariat. The co-founder of the party will no longer have absolute control over the internal life of the party. In his place, the leadership of Santiago Abascal has appointed the former candidate in Catalonia, Ignacio Garriga.

Ortega Smith will be from this Thursday vice president of the organization. In addition, the management has ratified him as a Vox candidate for the Madrid City Council in the May 2023 elections. This has been communicated by the party in a press release sent this Thursday to the media in which it ensures that “after accepting the appointment ” as the head of the list “Ortega Smith has announced his resignation from the position of general secretary to dedicate himself entirely to trying to win the mayoralty of the capital, and ”regain the freedom that the people of Madrid have lost -for example in terms of mobility- ending with the confiscatory and leftist policies that have been maintained in the consistory“.

Ortega Smith thus abandons a key position in the day-to-day of the party, from which he controlled the territorial organizations with an iron hand, as critics of the national leadership have denounced for years. But everything has been precipitated by the management of the exit of the party of one of its main figures, Macarena Olona. The former deputy she veiledly accused the former secretary general of being behind the pressure she had suffered after not achieving the objectives that were set in the Andalusian elections last June.

Olona, who is flirting with the possibility of launching a party after his fright from Vox, has approached precisely these critics on his tour of different areas of Spain to give different talks. In Murcia, for example, those expelled from Vox who supported Olona have assured that “the party does not want peripheral leaders.”

The party has appointed the Vox spokesman in the Catalan Parliament, Ignacio Garriga, to Ortega’s position, to whom his predecessor has dedicated his “best wishes.”

For her part, Macarena Olona has chosen to dedicate “words of thanks” to Ortega-Smith, whom she has thanked for his “service”, thus ending it.
