Von der Leyen signs the former leader of the Greens in the European Parliament as an advisor

BRUSSELS Nov. 25 () –

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has hired the former leader of the Greens in the European Parliament Philippe Lamberts as an advisor, whose main mission will be to help support the transition towards a climate-neutral economy.

As explained by the Community Executive in a statement published this Monday, Lamberts will play a consultative role in meeting the climate objectives for 2030, with a view to achieving climate neutrality in 2050.

Lamberts will work closely with Von der Leyen and her cabinet, as well as with the members of the College of Commissioners and the relevant directorates-general. In addition, you will have the support of a small team of experts.

The Commission is confident that its more than fifteen years of experience in the European Parliament – ten in the co-presidency of the Greens/EFA Group – as well as its “vast experience” and its “wide network” in politics, international affairs and the business community help Lamberts build bridges and bring “trends and innovations” from society and business to policy-making.

“For me, the Greens/EFA Group is part of the pro-European majority in the European Parliament,” said Von der Leyen, despite the fact that the Greens have been left out, in this legislature, of the coalition between ‘popular’, social democrats. and liberals that support the presidency of German politics at the head of the community Executive.

However, he has declared that he wants to continue working with them on issues such as the achievement of the EU’s climate objectives, the Clean Industry Pact, the reduction of bureaucracy or global commitment and has highlighted that Lamberts “has earned the respect of all parties and sectors”.
