Volkswagen arrives at CES with its ID.7: the great electric sedan with which it wants to settle its software problems

The CES always a place for extravagances and follies. The automotive sector is not far behind, where last year we saw how BMW presented an iX that changed color. This time it has been Volkswagen the one that has presented changes in the bodywork. But the important thing is not on the surface. The important thing is inside this ID. Aero B, the advance of the VW ID.7.

The great German sedan, or its advance (although already very close to what we will see on the street) has been presented with a curious bodywork in which up to 40 layers of paint have been used as camouflage to cover the shapes of the future Volkswagen ID. 7, the electric Passat that we hope to know completely this year 2023.

The still prototype plays with the layout of the QR shapes to extend a Interactive painting in which 22 luminescent layers can be controlled separately. It can even be coupled to a sound system to make your car glow to the beat of the music.

Volkswagen ID.7, what really matters

But beyond this curiosity, what really matters is that the Volkswagen ID.7 is hidden under this camouflage, the great electric sedan from the Germans that will make the Passat electric and promises autonomy of up to 700 kilometersaccording to the brand itself.

The model has already been seen with a minimal camouflage and it is rumored that it will have batteries with a capacity of 84 kWh to guarantee the aforementioned autonomy of 700 kilometers with a fast charge of 200 kW. It will be built in Emden, Germany, where Volkswagen already assembles the Passat and Arteon.

ID

The idea is to offer a car with a size similar to that of the Volkswagen Passat but with an interior cabin the size of a Phaeton, the one that was the great saloon of the germans. Their 2.97 meters of battle (already official measures announced by the brand) anticipate that its passengers will enjoy a huge interior space.

In its position as the great electric sedan of the brand, the Volkswagen ID.7 needs to confirm that Volkswagen is solving some software problems that are weighing it down. It is no coincidence that the information that the brand has published affects the artificial intelligence system of the infotainment or the detection of the key to heat or cool the seats before the driver enters the passenger compartment.

Volkswagen intended to dominate the market with an electric car at 20,000 euros. He already admits that it is impossible

But, in addition, the brand has also confirmed some changes that had been required. The electric will have “a new air conditioning system integrated into the first level of the infotainment system” that will be able to intelligently direct the air, both in direction and power, and illuminated touch buttons.

The Volkswagen ID.7 will be the next model of the 10 electric cars that Volkswagen aspires to have on the market in 2026 and which is part of its Accelerate strategy.
