The Andean Community (CAN) presented the first regional platform that compiles statistics, indicators and reports on traffic accidents, deaths and injuries registered in recent years in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, the member countries of the organization.

The platform Virtual Board of Road Safety was presented by the CAN General Secretariat and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (Unitar), The regional bloc reported this Wednesday in a statement.
Added that this tool “It is the result of cooperation between both organizations” and you are in your Web page available to governments, public officials in charge of road safety, local authorities, transport actors such as unions, drivers and civil society.
During the presentation, the interim secretary general of the CAN, Diego Caicedo, reported that in 2021 around 274,000 traffic accidents were registered in the Andean Communitywhich left more than 100,000 people injured and 14,000 dead.

Caicedo said that, given this, this platform complies with the mandate of the Andean Presidential Council, which considered road safety as a priority issue of the block.

Seth indicated that this institutional collaboration is aligned with the Global Plan of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030which calls for strengthening the capacity of road safety professionals working for the government, as well as other key actors from the private sector, civil society and research institutions in data collection systems for road safety.
During the presentation, the Minister of Transportation and Public Works of Ecuador, César Rohon, congratulated the initiative and stressed that the use of technology for road safety contributes to connectivity “working better.”
