The Vietnam National Coal – Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) will supply some 18.7 million tons of coal to thermal power plants in the second half of this year, according to its CEO, Dang Thanh Hai.

Hai said that together with the 20.98 million tons of coal that Vinacomin supplied to the plants in the first six months of this year, the total coal supplied by the firm to the plants will reach 39.7 million tons, up 15% more than in 2022.

The company is working hard to implement the guidelines of the Government, the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Commission for the Management of State Capital in Enterprises (CMSC) to strengthen the supply of coal for power generation in the dry season from May to July.

In May, Vinacomin shipped an additional 300,000 tons of coal to thermal power plants run by Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

Starting June 13, 7 million kWh per day will be added to the Vietnam grid

Hai noted that, at EVN’s request, Vinacomin will supply an additional 10 tons of coal to each EVN plant per month, beyond the amount set in their signed contracts.

In May, Vinacomin shipped an additional 300,000 tons of coal to thermal power plants run by Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

In June, Vinacomin will supply 30,000 tons of coal to the Thai Binh 1 Thermal Power Plant and 20,000 tons to the Hai Phong Thermal Power Plant. Meanwhile, it will supply 300,000 tons of coal to the Thai Binh 2 thermal power station, more than the contracted amount of 140,000 tons.

According to Vinacomin, the demand for coal for electricity generation will increase until the end of July and decrease in the rainy season, before increasing again from November.
