Local authorities in Vietnam are working around the clock to free a 10-year-old boy who has been trapped in a 35-meter-deep concrete pit since Saturday in the southern province of Dong Thap, in the Mekong River delta region.
Thai Ly Hao Nam and three other children were collecting scrap metal near a bridge under construction in the Thanh Bình district. According to the hypothesis with which the authorities work, the minor tripped and fell, getting stuck in the well, approximately 25 centimeters in diameter, as reported by the Vietnam News news portal.
Hundreds of firefighters and police officers rushed to the scene with bulldozers, cranes and augers for the rescue efforts, which began at noon on Saturday. The Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chính, has requested on Monday the participation and cooperation between the different ministries to speed up the process.
Despite the fact that his state of health is unknown, the minor was heard by the rescue teams two days ago, although they have not been able to reach him. The vice president of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, Doan Tan Buu, has indicated that the boy’s survival prognosis is low due to injuries and lack of oxygen.
