Vietnam approves extending its electronic tourist visas from 30 to 90 days

The National Assembly of Vietnam has approved this Saturday to extend the electronic tourist visas from 30 to 90 days, a measure that will come into force from August 15 of this year.

By obtaining an electronic visa, a foreigner can enter and exit an unlimited number of times within 90 days, without having to go through the procedures to obtain a new visa, Vietnam News reported.

Citizens of countries that are unilaterally exempted from visas by Vietnam will be granted temporary residence for 45 days (instead of 15 days) and may be considered for the issuance of visas and extension of temporary residence in accordance with the regulations.

The Government has yet to decide on the list of countries and territories whose citizens will be able to apply for the new visas, as well as which international border gates will allow the entry and exit of foreigners with electronic visas.

The decision was made at the 15th National Assembly with the participation of 470 of the 475 deputies and in which the amendment law, new articles of the law on the exit and entry of Vietnamese citizens, as well as the entry and departure of foreigners

The chairman of Vietnam’s Defense and National Security Committee, Le Tan Toi, explained that “immigration procedures to be carried out online will promote efficiency in the management of entry and exit activities and create more favorable conditions for Vietnamese and foreigners alike”.

Currently, the electronic visa issued by the Immigration Department to foreigners through the electronic transaction system is only valid once and is valid for citizens of 80 different countries.
