Austrian security forces have activated a extensive monitoring device in the capital, Vienna, after the Intelligence services have detected indications that point to a possible Islamist-motivated attack, with churches as a potential target.
Surveillance has been increased at key points in the city and the Vienna Police have confirmed that “there is a non-specific threat about an assault on the churches” in the city, without going into more detail about it.
“If there is imminent danger somewhere in the city, we will issue a notice immediately“, the Police said in a statement. Regarding the duration of these measures, they recognize that “it cannot be foreseen” until when they will be active.
