The journalist left the United Kingdom this Monday, after spending 1,901 days in the Belmarsh maximum security prison.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been released from a British prison and is heading to Australia, according to has reported WikiLeaks on your X account.

Assange reportedly left Belmarsh maximum security prison on Monday morning after spending a total of 1,901 days there. The High Court in London released the journalist on bail, after which he left the United Kingdom.

WikiLeaks published a video of Assange at Sansted airport boarding a plane bound for Australia.

“This is the result of a global campaign that spanned grassroots organizers, press freedom advocates, legislators and leaders across the political spectrum, all the way to the United Nations,” the WikiLeaks post on X states.

The organization adds that this has created room for an agreement with the US Department of Justice that has not yet been formally concluded.

As reported by several media outlets, Assange has reached an agreement with the US Department of Justice in which he agrees to plead guilty to criminal charges of conspiracy to obtain and disclose classified US national defense documents.
