( Spanish) — The National Campaign Command of María Corina Macho and Edmundo González issued a statement this Sunday in which he assures that the Argentine embassy in Caracas, currently under the custody of Brazil, is without electricity, surrounded by vehicles of the Venezuelan Government that prevent traffic in the place and with a blockage of communication signals. He also denounced that the protected areas of the embassy are flown over by drones.
For the opposition, this measure is a “clear violation” of the international conventions on asylum and diplomacy signed by the Government of Venezuela. Six members of María Corina Machado and Edmundo González’s campaign team are sheltered in the diplomatic headquarters.
On Saturday Omar González Moreno, former deputy and member of the National Directorate of the Vente Venezuela party, currently sheltered in the Argentine embassy, broadcast a video on his social networks in which he details that police officers surround the diplomatic headquarters.
For its part, the Government of Argentina condemned the “acts of harassment and intimidation” against people granted asylum in the Argentine embassy in Caracas. is seeking a comment from the Brazilian government, which is in charge of guarding the diplomatic headquarters.
This Sunday, opposition leader Edmundo González, asylum in Madrid since September, also assured on his social networks that the “siege” continues.
“The siege of our fellow refugees at the Argentine Embassy in Caracas continues. We are very attentive and alerting all countries and allies of what may happen. The reactions will not be long in coming,” he wrote on his X account.
Another reaction came from the secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro.
“The harassment to which the dictatorship in Venezuela subjects the Argentine Embassy in Caracas is unacceptable and contrary to international law. The harassment must stop immediately and the right to asylum of opponents of the dictatorship must be guaranteed,” according to Almagro’s publication on his X account.
