After calling the MEPs “idiots”, the president of the Venezuelan Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, said that the Venezuelan government rejected the request of the European Union to send observers to the 2024 presidential elections.

“I’m telling you, Josep Borrell. No observation mission from Europe will come here as long as we are the representatives of the Venezuelan State. They don’t come back here,” Rodríguez emphasized.

After taking care to cultivate political relations with European diplomacy in recent years, the president of the Venezuelan Parliament thus responded to the pronouncement of the European Parliament on the Venezuelan situation.

“Worry”

Indeed, the European institution condemned the political disqualifications of several opposition leaders, including three presidential candidates: María Corina Machado, who leads all the opinion polls for the primaries, Henrique Capriles and Freddy Superlano. The European Parliament once again showed its “concern” at the evolution of the Venezuelan regime and called for the release of the 280 political prisoners.

In Venezuela there will be presidential elections in 2024, which both the opposition and international actors claim are democratic. To do this, they refer to the 23 recommendations made by the Electoral Observation Mission after regional elections in 2021, which are still pending attention.

On Wednesday, at the Andrés Bello Catholic University, and with the notable absence of Henrique Capriles who declined at the last minute, the debate of the 10 candidates for the primary election organized by the Unitary Platform through its Electoral Commission with citizens was held .

In the final greeting for the press, María Corina Machado, who assures that she seeks to lead a common project, refused to take the hand of her companions to make the sign of victory.
