Venezuela: mixed reactions after CNE gave Maduro the victory

After hours of uncertainty, the National Electoral Council declared the current president, Nicolás Maduro, the winner of the presidential elections in Venezuela (51.2% of the votes), followed by the opposition candidate Edmundo González (44.2%), with 80% of the tables counted. Shortly after, Maduro thanked the support and denounced “a massive hack” of the electoral system that delayed the results. For its part, the opposition ignored what was announced by the CNE and the leader of the opposition, María Corina Machado, said that the candidate Edmundo González is the new “elected president of Venezuela.” Throughout the night, the opposition denounced that it was not allowed to access all the minutes and that many of its observers were expelled from the polling stations during the counting.
