The Vietnam Digital Media Association has announced that a written suggestion will be made to YouTube and Facebook to protect Sconnect’s rights.

The purpose of the document is for them to consider reflectively, based on a decision of a court in Moscow (Russia), the protection of the legitimate rights of Sconnect pending the final call of the Court of England and the Court of Hanoi.

Since early 2022, Sconnect and EO have continuously sued each other in courts in Russia, the UK, and Vietnam over disputes over intellectual property rights. Although no court has yet concluded that Sconnect violated EO’s copyright, the YouTube platform removed more than 1,000 videos and restricted Wolfoo’s commercial rights.

According to the latest news about the intellectual property dispute between Sconnect and Entertainment One (EO), on October 11, the president of the Vietnam Digital Communications Association (VDCA), Nguyễn Minh Hồng, signed a document responding to the petition by Sconnect.

On September 14, Sconnect sent a request to the president of the VDCA asking for help in protecting the legitimate rights and interests of this unit, which the foreign companies were seriously infringing.

In Document No. 79/HTTS-DCC, dated October 11, in response to Sconnect’s letter, the VDCA stated: “This is a civil case. Accordingly, it is recommended that Sconnect initiate a lawsuit in the Hanoi City People’s Court for the resolution of the dispute in parallel with the litigation activity under the EO petition in the UK Court.”

VDCA also reported that: “While legal proceedings are being carried out by related parties in the UK and Vietnam, VDCA has requested in writing intermediary service providers such as YouTube, Facebook and other similar platforms, to consider the dossier fully. and objective in depth; considering based on the previous decision of the Court of the city of Moscow (Russian Federation), not to depreciate Vietnamese companies pending the judgment of the court to be enacted by the parties, when the lawsuit has not been filed and accepted by the UK and Vietnam courts.

“VDCA asks YouTube to consider maintaining the status quo from before the dispute arose, not agreeing to Entertainment One copyrighting Wolfoo content from Sconnect, as well as restoring all previously removed Wolfoo content and reinstating Sconnect Wolfoo’s right to publish new content on the channels,” VDCA added.

Wolfoo also achieved 3 Diamond Play Buttons and dozens of Golden and Silver Play Buttons on YouTube. The “made in Vietnam” product is affected by copyright litigation with EO’s Peppa Pig character set.

“Although Wolfoo Character Game had been fully registered for copyright of images, characters and scripts in Việt Nam, USA, Russia and many other countries, when EO reported copyright content copyright and YouTube still agreed, Sconnect suffered great damage, over $1 million in revenue, as well as damage to brand reputation,” a Sconnect representative said.
