Next week Valencia will become the world capital of gastronomy with the celebration, on Tuesday June 20, of the gala ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants’, which will crown in the Palau de Les Arts, part of the modernist complex of the City of Arts and Sciences, to the best restaurant in the world.

A title currently held by the Danish restaurant ‘Geranium’ by chef Rasmus Kofoed, which was crowned the best in 2022, in a prestigious ranking of the 50 best establishments, which included six Spanish restaurants.

The ‘Disfrutar’ restaurant in Barcelona led by chefs Mateu Casañas, Oriol Castro and Eduard Xatruch won third place, while ‘DiverXo’, by Dabiz Muñoz from Madrid, came in fourth.

In sixth place was also the Asador Etxebarri (Vizcaya), by Bittor Arginzoniz, while in 16th place was “Elkano” from Guetaria (Guipúzcoa), in 21st place was “Mugaritz” from Errenteria (Guipúzcoa) and in 42, Quique Dacosta with his restaurant Dénia (Alicante).

APONIENTE, AZURMENDI, ENIGMA AND RICARD CAMARENA RESTAURANT, IN THE TOP 100

A gala that will reveal the 50 best restaurants in the world, but that a few weeks ago already announced the second part of the list, from position 51 to 100, which includes the Spanish ‘Aponiente’, ‘Azurmendi’, ‘Enigma’ and ‘Ricard Camarena’ Restaurant’.

Thus, ‘Aponiente’, by chef Ángel León in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), has been ranked number 64, while ‘Azurmendi’, by Eneko Atxa, is at 81, and the project by Albert Adriá ‘Enigma’, settles in 82, while the host city this year of the gala, Valencia, enters the list for the first time with ‘Ricard Camarena Restaurant’, in position 96.

During the gala, the career of the Basque chef Andoni Luis Aduriz, owner of ‘Mugaritz’ in San Sebastián, will also be recognized, who will receive the ‘Icon Award’, which the organization grants to the person who has made an outstanding contribution to the world of gastronomy worthy of international recognition and that has used its platform to raise awareness and promote positive change in the sector.

The ‘Mugaritz’ restaurant has featured on ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants’ list every year since 2005, including the past where it was ranked 21st.

An award given to him for his “tireless work” throughout his three decades of career in promoting sustainable agriculture and reducing food waste, while working for a socially and environmentally committed gastronomic industry.

The Spanish label will also be present at the gala thanks to the wines of Beronia (DOCa. Rioja and DO Rueda), which will accompany the best chefs in the world at the gala, as well as Cinco Jotas Iberian ham, Fundador brandy, Flor de Caña and Estrella Damm, among other sponsors.

Since 2002, ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants’ has reflected the diversity of the global gastronomic landscape through this renowned ranking, carried out by more than 1,000 experts who choose, through a structured and audited voting procedure, the best establishments in the world.
