The Public Bank is deeply honored with the designation of a conference hall at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) named after the late YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Teh Hong Piow, founder of Public Bank, a highly esteemed personality renowned for his exemplary leadership.
This honorary name was given to the lecture hall in recognition of Tan Sri Teh’s notable philanthropic gestures towards the University, primarily through his significant donations of RM20 million to UTAR in its early years of establishment, which enabled The University fulfills its mission of offering quality and affordable education. This has contributed to making education accessible to many people who saw it as an opportunity to achieve their dreams and a platform to hone their skills and knowledge and be able to make significant contributions to society and the nation.
This also reflects the recent donation of RM2 million for the development of UTAR Hospital, which consolidates the hospital’s role as a teaching hospital and reinforces its commitment to training practicing medical students to become medical specialists serving the nation. Tan Sri Teh’s generosity has played a vital role in developing future talents within the University, paving the way for training students in various fields of study.

The conference hall and wall of fame also reflect UTAR’s commitment to uphold the belief of the late Tan Sri Teh and, as a beacon of hope, continue to propel UTAR towards educational excellence and UTAR Hospital as a pillar of health in your community.
Ms Teh Li Shian Diona, youngest daughter of Tan Sri Teh, stated: “By naming this conference hall after him, we commemorate his contributions and inspire future generations to strive for greatness in their endeavors.” Tan Sri Teh maintained close ties with UTAR and constantly supported the development of the University. It is more than a simple dedication; “It is the continuation of his life’s work, his dreams and the values he held so dear.”
He added: “He used to talk so passionately about how education can change society, and that is one of my favorite memories of him. In his opinion, education would allow people to create their own lives and benefit those around them.
He often said: “Knowledge is the key that opens all doors.” “He reminded me that the only reason he was able to go from modest beginnings to founding the Public Bank was his opportunities to develop and learn.”
