Users report that the seismic alert never reached their cell phones

Although the alert did not reach the majority of the population, some users shared with Expansión that a message from the Presidency arrived on their phones notifying them that the National Drill would be carried out.

Telcel explained to Expansion that the alert system does not depend on them, since it is managed by the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) itself.

Eduardo Clarck, head of the Digital Agency for Public Innovation, acknowledged that the seismic alarm notification did not reach all citizens, but those involved are working to diagnose the fault and correct it. “It is the first time we have run the protocol and we have to improve,” said the official on his official X account (formerly Twitter).

The IFT, for its part, explained in a press release that it is working with the authorities and the concessionaires to identify the reasons why the emergency alert did not reach all mobile devices.

The Institute explained that in order to receive alert messages, phones must be compatible with the Cellular Broadcasting Service (CBS), a system that allows for the reception and processing of alert messages for risk or emergency situations such as earthquakes, hurricanes or floods, whose technology is designed to give priority to the timely and uninterrupted transmission of communications and alert messages for risk or emergency situations.
