Users on the warpath: they ask that Google Maps eliminate this new function

Recently Google Maps has received a few updates of some importance, but curiously they have not gone down well with the user community.

Last year already happened with the issue of new colors in the Google Maps interface that made the application more difficult to use, and at that time many users asked Google to remove the new color palette to return to the original .

Recently Google Maps has released the incident notification function incorporating the ability to mark dangers on the map, ideal for Android Auto.

This update gives users the ability to report common traffic hazards such as accidents, but also speed cameras and road works.

Google Maps, for now, is focusing on common hazards, while Waze includes a broader range of incidents.

However, although the release of this feature can be seen as positive, users are not happy at all.

In fact, there is a official complaint thread on the Google forumsin which dozens of users criticize a specific issue in road incident reports.

Basically they comment that the inclusion of incident notifications in Google Maps has become a distraction for drivers.

They point out that the confirmation messages that appear on the screen makes drivers take their eyes off the road for a secondputting them in danger.

“Incredibly distracting and unsafe. The only way is to delete it and use a different app,” said one user.

“It is not legal to touch a phone while driving, and that includes closing or responding yes or no to these pop-ups,” explains another user.

That is, users are not bothered by the road incident functionality, but rather by confirmation messages and notifications that appear on the screen.

We will see if Google heeds this warning from users.
