June 28 () –
The National Security Adviser of the United States, Jake Sullivan, thanked the Turkish Security and Foreign Policy Adviser, Akif Cagatay Kilic, on Tuesday for the “constructive dialogue” derived from the last conversation between the leaders of Greece and Turkey.
The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, held a telephone conversation last Monday in which they agreed to meet in a bilateral meeting taking advantage of the NATO leaders’ summit to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, between on July 11 and 12.
The conversation between the two leaders took place “in a good atmosphere” in which both have wanted beneficial bilateral relations, something of great importance for stability in the Aegean Sea, Sullivan said.
On the other hand, Sullivan has expressed the opinion that Sweden should join NATO “as soon as possible,” according to a White House statement.
GRAIN AGREEMENT
The American adviser thanked Kilic for the role that Ankara has played as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine in the agreement to export Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea ports.
Despite this, the renewal of the agreement remains blocked by Russia’s refusal, as it alleges that Russian products are not being transported and that, therefore, the agreement benefits Ukraine more.
