The Government of the United States has considered the conclusions of the UN report “alarming” that warns of serious violations of Human Rights in the Chinese region of Xinjiang, where Washington affirms that a genocide is being committed.
The report published late Wednesday by the UN Human Rights office includes abuses that, in the eyes of the international organization, could constitute crimes against humanity.
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has indicated in a statement that the document provides “alarming details” about a situation that Washington has been denouncing for years, with an eye on Beijing’s actions against minorities, especially the Uyghur.
“This report deepens and reaffirms our grave concern regarding the genocide and crimes against humanity that the Chinese government is perpetrating against the Uyghurs, who are mostly Muslim, and members of other ethnic and religious minorities,” Blinken said.
Washington will continue to work “closely” with its allies to advance accountability, although the head of US diplomacy has urged the Chinese authorities to release all those people detained “unfairly”, report the missing and allow “unhindered” access for independent researchers.
