The United States Department of the Treasury announced this Monday the inclusion in its sanctions ‘blacklist’ of several people, entities and vessels for their involvement in the illicit transportation of oil and other raw materials to benefit the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
This new series of sanctions is the sixth that the United States Treasury has launched since October 2023 against the network of businessman based in Iran Said al Jamal, who would be at the head of a network of shell companies and vessels that generate significant profits. to the Houthis in Yemen.
Among those sanctioned is also Al Jamal’s nephew, Abdalá al Jamal, who would be in charge of money laundering operations, as well as some ship captains, their owners and several transport companies.
“Al Jamal continues to leverage a large support network to facilitate the illegal sale of merchandise, including concealing the origin of cargo, falsifying shipping documents and providing services to sanctioned vessels,” the Department spokesperson explained. of State, Matthew Miller.
In that sense, Washington has announced that it will continue to apply the necessary measures and sanctions to prevent the Houthis from continuing their attacks on Israeli and American ships and boats in the Red Sea, as part of its response to the bombings on the Gaza Strip.
