MADRID 8 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United States Government has imposed economic sanctions on Algoney Hamdan Dagalo Musa, brother of the leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, alias ‘Hemedti’, for being the main supplier of weapons to this responsible paramilitary group Therefore, the war in Sudan continues.
The Treasury Department has recalled that the war between the RSF and the Sudanese Army has already left tens of thousands dead, more than eleven million displaced and millions more people at risk of hunger in just one year.
Algoney, as “procurement director of the RSF (…) has extended this war by leading the delivery of weapons and military equipment,” which have facilitated attacks and “other atrocities” against the Sudanese population.
One of ‘Hemedti’s’ younger brothers, Algoney has held other senior positions in the RSF, controlling shell companies from which vehicles have been illegally imported into Sudan.
“The United States will continue to hold accountable those who attempt to prolong this conflict and restrict access to vital humanitarian assistance at a time of famine and fragility,” said Acting Undersecretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Bradley Smith.
Through these sanctions, all of Algoney’s assets and interests in US territory are blocked.
The war broke out on April 15, 2023 due to strong disagreements regarding the integration process of the paramilitary group – now declared a terrorist organization – within the Armed Forces, a situation that caused the definitive derailment of the transition opened in 2019 after the overthrow of the Omar Hasan al Bashir regime.
