Aug. 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The US military has announced that it rescued two Iranian civilian sailors who were “in distress” in international waters a week ago, after which they were transported to the aircraft carrier ‘Theodore Roosevelt’ where they received medical attention and were provided with food and water.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the rescue took place last Friday at around 7:00 a.m. (local time). An inflatable boat from the missile destroyer ‘USS Daniel Inouye’ and a helicopter from the ‘USS Theodore Roosevelt’ retrieved the sailors from the water, according to a statement posted on its website.
“Our Navy Sailors and crew responded quickly and professionally, demonstrating their world-class training. Assisting Sailors in distress is a mission our strike group will always be ready to support. It’s the right thing to do and demonstrates once again that the U.S. Navy is a ready force when you need it,” said Rear Adm. Christopher Alexander.
Currently, in the context of tensions in the Middle East, two American aircraft carriers (‘USS Theodore Roosevelt’ and ‘USS Abraham Lincoln’) are present in the region. The first of them is carrying out routine operations in the CENTCOM area of operations.
