US President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 again on Saturday and is canceling two planned trips, but is asymptomatic and feeling “pretty good.”
Biden, who tested positive for the disease nine days ago but then tested negative twice earlier this week, “will isolate in the White House until he tests negative” and will cancel trips in the coming days to Delaware and Michigan, he said. the White House on Saturday.
Biden had planned the trip to Michigan to promote Thursday’s passage of legislation to boost the semiconductor chip industry, the White House announced.
Biden’s positive test is believed to be a “rebound” positivity experienced by some COVID patients, according to White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor.
Biden tweeted about his positive case, saying it may happen to a “tiny minority of people.” “I have no symptoms, but I am going to self-isolate for the safety of everyone around me. I’m still at work and will be back on the road soon,” he tweeted.
O’Connor said Biden, 79, has tested negative in the past four days and there are no plans to restart treatment given his lack of symptoms. Biden previously described his experience with COVID as mild, said he was able to continue working while in isolation and attributed his relative ease with the disease to vaccines and other treatments.
O’Connor had previously said that Biden would be tested regularly for a possible “rebound” case of COVID-19, which some patients who have been treated with Paxlovid, the drug the president received, may experience.
