( Spanish) – At least three American missionaries who were in Haiti left the country over the binational bridge in the province of Dajabón, Dominican Republic, this Thursday due to the escalation of violence in recent days in the neighboring country. Pastor and missionary John Adams said he was forced to leave Haiti due to intensifying violence and insecurity.
He assured that he had to arrive by land to the Dominican Republic because there are no flights leaving Haiti to the United States.
The United States Federal Aviation Administration this week suspended flights to Haiti for 30 days after armed attacks by gangs against three US airline planes that threaten the safety of air operations. ( )
Adams expressed his concern and urged the international community to come to the aid of the Caribbean country.
“It’s hell,” said the pastor and missionary.
For Adams, the multinational force is not enough to combat the gangs that control at least 80% of the Haitian capital, according to official data.
He claims that those who suffer the most in all of this are the Haitians-the people-because the gangs are more powerful than the Haitian government.
This week Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council voted to replace Prime Minister Garry Conille after less than a year in office.
According to a government statement, the Council signed a declaration on November 8 that removed Conille from office and appointed businessman Alix Didier Fils-Aimé as the new prime minister.
The transitional council is tasked with paving the way for a new president to be elected after Haiti’s president, Jovenel Moïse, was assassinated in 2021.
