US Justice Department finds four US citizens guilty of acting as Russian "illegal agents"

September 12 () –

The US court has found four US citizens guilty of conspiring against national interests and acting as “illegal agents” of the Russian government from 2015 until July 2022.

This is according to a statement released Thursday by the US Department of Justice, which identifies the convicted as Omali Yeshitela, 82; Penny Hess, 78; Jesse Nevel, 34; and August Romain, 38.

According to the evidence gathered, these four people acted as “illegal agents” of the Russian government on US territory from May 2015 to July 2022, just a few months after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

The US Justice Department said the four defendants were linked to the head of Russia’s Anti-Globalization Movement, Alexander Ionov, a Moscow-based organization funded by the Russian government.

The four defendants face sentences of up to five years in prison, although no date has yet been set for the sentencing. “The FBI is investigating the case,” the US administration said.
