The United States Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has prepared a report in which they assure that the Russian Armed Forces have used North Korean-made missiles in their attacks on Ukrainian territory, especially after the meeting of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and the North Korean supreme leader, Kim Jong Un, in September 2023.

“Pyongyang has advanced its cooperation with Moscow with the direct supply of support material, including at least three million artillery shells along with dozens of ballistic missiles to sustain Russia’s war in Ukraine,” the aforementioned report states.

According to this report, the West’s suspicions about the supply of missiles from North Korea to Russia would be true, although both Pyongyang and Moscow have always denied these links. The Ukrainian authorities were among the first to denounce the presence of remains of North Korean missiles in areas attacked by the Russian Army.

The aforementioned DIA study indicates that in the Russian attack on Kharkov on January 2 – which left one dead and fifty wounded – a North Korean short-range missile was indeed used. That event was the first in which kyiv denounced the use of military material manufactured in North Korea by the Russian Armed Forces.

US Intelligence has compared images released by the North Korean authorities of Kim’s visits to missile factories with other images on social networks or from the Government of Ukraine in which remains of missiles are observed in areas attacked by Russia, evidencing similarities between the projectiles of some and other images.

On the other hand, the DIA report emphasizes the evolution and strengthening of relations between Moscow and Pyongyang, highlighting the meeting between Putin and Kim in September of last year at the Vostochny cosmodrome, located in the far east of Russia. After that meeting, the United States considers that relations strengthened even more.
